This exquisite mid-19th-century map depicts Northern India, stretching from the western borders of Gujarat and Rajasthan through the Gangetic Plain to Bengal, Assam, and the borders of Burma. Drawn and engraved by John Rapkin with decorative illustrations by A.H. Wray and J.H. Kernot, the work was published in London by The London Printing and Publishing Company. It offers a detailed cartographic view of the region during the height of British East India Company influence prior to the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Characteristic of the renowned John Tallis and London Printing Publishing Co. atlases, the map is enclosed within a lavishly engraved decorative border featuring scrolling foliate fretwork. Political boundaries are outlined in delicate original hand coloring, categorized by a reference key that distinguishes British Possessions, States under British Protection, and Independent States.
