Published in New York by Johnson and Ward, the map captures the full extent of British presidency territories, princely states, railway lines, rivers, and mountain ranges stretching from the Himalayas down through Ceylon, and extending eastward into Burma, Siam, and the Malay Peninsula. Vibrant regional color washes delineate administrative divisions under Crown rule following the reorganization of the subcontinent in the mid-19th century. In addition to the main map, four detailed insets are included around the periphery.
