This finely detailed 19th-century plan of Warsaw (Warszawa), Poland, was published under the superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK) in November 1831. The map depicts the capital city along the banks of the Vistula River (Wisła), highlighting the urban layout, fortifications, gardens, major street networks, and the district of Praga on the opposite bank. Distinct outline coloring demarks historical administrative boundaries and city defenses, with detailed notes indicating historical burnt areas from 1794 and 1831. At the bottom margin, the map features an impressive series of architectural profile vignettes depicting Warsaw's most prominent landmark structures, including the Royal Castle, Town Hall, Holy Cross Church, and various palaces and public buildings. Drawn by architect W. B. Clarke and engraved by T. E. Nicholson, this map serves as an exceptional visual record of Warsaw during the period of the November Uprising.
Condition: Light marginal toning and minor handling creases along the outer edges.. Clear, dark impression on sturdy cream paper with original outline hand-coloring.. Small archival annotations in pencil present in the lower right border.
