Based on Claudius Ptolemy's ancient geographical coordinates, this elegant 16th-century copperplate engraving by Girolamo Ruscelli depicts the British Isles ("Albion" and "Hibernia") featuring classical place names, ancient tribal territories, and a decorative Renaissance ship sailing off the Scottish coast.

Condition: Strong, dark impression on original laid paper.. Light, even age toning across sheet margins.. Sharp plate mark intact with generous margins.. Free of major foxing, tears, or restorations.. Verso: Contains a letterpress title page within a Renaissance woodcut border: 'HIBERNIA ET ALBION, EVROPAE Tabula I' (Sebastian Münster edition).. Verso details: Light uniform age toning, visible ghosting from the map on the opposite side, penciled stock number 3552 in lower left corner, archival tape tabs affixed at upper corners.
