A scholarly late 16th-century copperplate-engraved map by Gerard Mercator depicting the Duchy of Lorraine with detailed topography, settlements, rivers, and a Renaissance strapwork title cartouche.
Condition: Light age toning and minor paper discoloration near outer edges. Minor chipping and wear at top left margin corner. Pencil inventory number "5128" on right margin. Crisp, dark impression on sturdy laid paper with full margins. Verso: Light overall age toning and minor marginal handling marks.. Verso: Minor creasing along the central fold.. Verso: Small closed tear at the bottom edge near the central fold.. Verso: Crisp, legible letterpress printing with a prominent woodcut initial "V".
