The map shows the country divided into departments with historical provinces noted, detailed with major cities, rivers, mountain ranges, rail lines, canals, and historic battlefields. An inset at the bottom left depicts the island of Corsica. Geographically, the map extends north across the English Channel to show southern England, east into Belgium, Germany, and Switzerland, and south to northern Spain. Beautifully rendered with Johnson's signature decorative fretwork border, the map features vivid original hand coloring in soft shades of pink, green, and yellow to delineate departmental borders.
