This detailed 1833 German map illustrates the northwestern region of France—including Brittany, Normandy, Maine, and Anjou—alongside the English Channel and the southern coastline of England. Created by Friedrich von Stülpnagel based on specifications by renowned cartographer Adolf Stieler, the sheet was published by Justus Perthes in Gotha as plate No. 14c for Stieler's celebrated Hand-Atlas. The cartography provides exceptional detail for towns, ports, rivers, coastal features, and regional administrative boundaries defined in fine hand-colored outlines. The top portion of the map clearly depicts the English Channel, labeled 'La Manche oder Der Brittische Canal', anchored above by southern English counties from Cornwall to Kent with key towns such as London, Bristol, Dover, and Portsmouth marked. Finely etched hachuring represents relief and topography throughout both the French interior and coastal islands. The decorative title cartouche in the lower-left corner incorporates classic script and geometric rules typical of early 19th-century German cartographic design.
